Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has topped Rs 138 crore net in India, surpassing Oppenheimer to become the director’s highest-grossing release in the country, trade data showed on Friday, July 31, 2026.
Trade tracker Sacnilk reported the film collected roughly Rs 3 crore on Day 15, pushing its cumulative India net collection to about Rs 138.40 crore since its July 17 release.
Oppenheimer’s full theatrical run in India had earned Rs 129 crore net, a total that had made it the 13th Hollywood release to cross the Rs 100 crore net threshold in the country.
The record was set close to Nolan’s July 30 birthday, adding a notable coincidence to a milestone that trade watchers had been tracking since the film’s second week.
The Odyssey features an ensemble cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron.
Trade reports point out that despite generating more revenue, The Odyssey has drawn fewer overall footfalls in India than Oppenheimer did, a gap attributed to differing ticket prices and premium-format demand.
Oppenheimer had become just the 13th Hollywood film to cross Rs 100 crore net in India during its theatrical run, with IMAX screens contributing close to 40% of its business in its second week.
Despite The Odyssey’s higher total revenue, trade reports note that Oppenheimer recorded higher overall footfalls during its run, reflecting differences in average ticket pricing and premium-format viewership between the two films.
The milestone arrived close to Christopher Nolan’s birthday on July 30, adding a symbolic dimension to the record for trade watchers tracking the director’s India box office history.
The Odyssey opened strongly in its first week, collecting around Rs 85.50 crore net in its opening seven days before settling into a steadier run through its second and third weeks.
Shot largely on IMAX cameras, the film continues Nolan’s long association with the large-format technology, a factor trade analysts say has historically boosted his films’ premium-format revenue share in India.
