Prime Focus Studios has struck a deal with Sony Pictures to distribute its mythological epic Ramayana across international markets outside India, marking one of the largest such tie-ups for an Indian film.
The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi and is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, with a score composed by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.
Prime Focus Studios founder Namit Malhotra called the deal a historic moment for the production. The trailer launch, originally planned around this period, has now been postponed following the announcement.
Ramayana will release in multiple languages internationally, including a premium English version, aiming for the kind of scale usually associated with major Hollywood tentpole releases.
Dharma Productions, led by Karan Johar, will continue to handle the film’s distribution within India.
