Knight Riders Sports has appointed Ryan ten Doeschate as its Head of Cricket Strategy, bringing him back into the organisation in a role covering all four of its franchise teams.
The role will see ten Doeschate lead scouting, recruitment, squad planning and performance evaluation across the Knight Riders’ global network.
Alongside the new position, he will take on Assistant Coach duties at Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20, and Los Angeles Knight Riders in the MLC.
Ten Doeschate’s association with the franchise dates back to 2011, when he played for Kolkata Knight Riders and was part of its IPL-winning squads in 2012 and 2014.
He rejoined as a coach from 2022 to 2024, contributing to KKR’s third IPL title win in 2024 as a member of the coaching staff.
Venky Mysore, CEO of Knight Riders Sports, welcomed the appointment, saying ten Doeschate’s understanding of the organisation’s philosophy and his experience in franchise and international cricket made him well suited for the role.
Ten Doeschate himself described the move as a unique opportunity to work with coaching and analytics teams across the group’s franchises to strengthen their scouting and development systems.
He takes up the new role shortly after stepping down as an assistant coach with the Indian men’s team following its white-ball series in England.
The Knight Riders group is co-owned by actor Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, which holds a 55 per cent stake, with Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta’s Mehta Group owning the rest; the same ownership also controls Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.
As a player, ten Doeschate represented the Netherlands internationally, scoring two centuries at the 2011 World Cup including a memorable 119 against England, and spent close to two decades at Essex, whom he led to two County Championship titles before retiring in 2021.
