India slipped to 66 for 2 after 17 overs on the opening morning of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, having chosen to bat first after winning the toss.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for 45, edging a delivery from Asitha Fernando onto his stumps, while KL Rahul departed earlier for 18, bowled by Lahiru Kumara.
Devdutt Padikkal, fresh off a century at Galle in the first Test, has carried on batting after being dropped twice in the slip cordon.
The biggest team news of the day was the Test debut of Saransh Jain, the Madhya Pradesh off-spinner who replaced Kuldeep Yadav in India’s playing XI.
India head into the Test with a 1-0 series lead after their 165-run victory at Galle, and a win or draw in Colombo would secure the series.
The match is being played at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground from August 23 to 27, with Sri Lanka fielding a heavily reshuffled side following injuries to Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis.
Saransh Jain, a Madhya Pradesh off-spinner making his Test debut, came in for Kuldeep Yadav in India’s playing XI for the Colombo match.
Jain earned his maiden India call-up after an impressive first-class record of more than 1,700 runs and over 150 wickets across more than 50 matches, and a strong showing on India A’s recent tour of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka’s playing XI for the Test includes uncapped opener Kamil Mishara, with Dhananjaya de Silva captaining the side in place of the unavailable Dinesh Chandimal.
