A viral video shows Assam teacher Rumi Deka carrying out her Census 2027 fieldwork duties with her twin daughters accompanying her.

The clip, posted on Instagram, shows Deka going from house to house with one daughter carried in her arms and the other holding her hand throughout the assignment.

Deka said she was left with little choice but to bring her daughters along, as the fieldwork involved visiting several households and the duration of each round was uncertain.

The video has since drawn wide praise online for her dedication, though some viewers questioned how she was balancing childcare with her official responsibilities.

Responding to the comments, a person identifying himself as Deka’s husband clarified that her teaching job and Census duty are separate, noting her school is close to home while the Census work requires travel across different areas.

She explained that she had little choice but to bring her daughters along, since the fieldwork involved visiting multiple households and she was unsure how long each round of duty would take.

The clip prompted a wave of praise from social media users for her commitment to the assignment, though some also questioned how she was managing both childcare and her official duties at once.

A person identifying himself as Deka’s husband responded to the comments, clarifying that her regular teaching job and her Census duty were separate responsibilities.

He noted that her school is close to home, while the Census assignment requires travelling to different households, making the twin-daughter workaround necessary during fieldwork hours.

Census-related fieldwork in India typically involves enumerators, many of whom are drawn from the teaching and government employee workforce, visiting households to record demographic data.

The video is among a string of recent human-interest clips from India’s ongoing Census 2027 preparatory exercises to draw attention on social media.
