India’s Sensex and Nifty rebounded in early trade on Monday, snapping a five-session losing run, after crude oil prices tumbled 5 per cent.
The Sensex opened 549.21 points higher, up 0.72 per cent, at 76,608.98. The Nifty 50 added 160.95 points to open at 23,928.40.
The previous close on Friday had left both indices at over a month’s low, with the Sensex at 76,059.77 and the Nifty at 23,767.45.
The turnaround came as crude oil prices dropped sharply on easing tensions in West Asia, pulling back from a two-month high touched last week.
IndiGo topped the gainers list with a 3.11 per cent rise, with Eternal, Infosys, Asian Paints and Bajaj Finance also among the top gainers on the Sensex.
The broader market mirrored the rally, with the BSE Smallcap Select Index climbing 1.05 per cent to 8,677.49.
