The Sensex and Nifty ended a five-day slump with a sharp rally on Monday.

The Sensex settled 776.29 points higher, up 1.02 per cent, at 76,835.78, while the Nifty gained 229.40 points, or 0.96 per cent, to close at 23,995.95.

Crude oil prices fell sharply after the United States and Iran paused military strikes, easing worries about an extended geopolitical standoff and lifting sentiment.

IT and bank stocks led the gains, with Eternal and IndiGo standing out among individual gainers.

The session built on an already positive opening earlier in the day.

The rebound follows five consecutive sessions of losses tied to an earlier surge in crude oil prices.
