Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay inaugurated the Poonamallee-Vadapalani stretch of Chennai Metro Phase II on October 11.

The stretch has 11 elevated stations and cost about Rs 4,900 crore.

The two leaders rode the Metro from Porur Bypass station to Poonamallee Bypass station and back.

Services run daily from 7 am to 9 pm from October 12.

Fares range from about Rs 10 to about Rs 40 on the line.

The two leaders flagged off the new services and then rode the Metro together, according to The Daily Jagran.

The ride was from Porur Bypass station to Poonamallee Bypass station and back, according to reports.

The Prime Minister briefly interacted with a ticket counter employee after buying a ticket, according to the same reports.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar also attended the inauguration, according to the reports.

The stretch cost about Rs 4,900 crore.

It has 11 elevated stations on the yellow line, with one report giving its length as about 15 km.

The stations are Poonamallee Bypass, Poonamallee Bus Stand, Poonamallee Government Hospital, Karayanchavadi, Kumananchavadi, Kattupakkam, Iyyappanthangal, Thelliyaragaram, Porur Bypass, Porur Junction and Vadapalani.

At Vadapalani, riders can connect to the existing Phase I network.

The line has driverless operation and advanced signalling systems, according to The Daily Jagran.

Regular passenger services began at 4 pm on Sunday and ran until 9 pm, according to the reports.

From October 12, services are scheduled to run daily from 7 am to 9 pm in both directions.

Fares are about Rs 10 for short trips, rising to about Rs 40 for the longest one-way ride on the line, according to The Daily Jagran.
