The INDIA bloc has called a major protest in New Delhi on Monday, October 12, 2026, to press its demands on voting rights and the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, of electoral rolls.

Congress general secretary K C Venugopal announced the protest to reporters in Alappuzha, Kerala, according to a PTI report carried by Business Today.

Venugopal said that the bloc would keep up its agitation until the electoral process and system are made free and fair.

The bloc is pressing for accountability from the Election Commission of India over the SIR, which it says could affect eligible voters.

The bloc has also demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee plans to stay in Delhi to join the protest, according to The Week.

The INDIA bloc recently met President Droupadi Murmu to convey its concerns, and plans to meet Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Monday, according to Business Today.

Reports also said that opposition leaders plan to submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India, according to Dainik Jagran English.

The venue and route of the protest were not specified in the reports, and Dainik Jagran English said that arrangements and police restrictions still need verification.

The announcement followed Saturday’s crackdown in Delhi, in which police detained large numbers of people around the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest at Jantar Mantar.
