The India Meteorological Department has warned of very heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir over the next two days, issuing a red alert for the three regions.

Ladakh is also expected to see widespread rainfall through the remainder of the week.

Wind speeds could touch 80 kmph in some places, according to the IMD, which flagged the risk of uprooted trees and power disruptions.

The weather department also warned of traffic disruptions and waterlogging in low-lying areas as the rain persists.

Hilly states have been cautioned over possible landslides and a sudden rise in river water levels amid the continuing rain.
