External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar co-chaired the 27th session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation in Moscow today.
Jaishankar co-chaired the session alongside Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, with the commission covering cooperation across trade, economy, science, technology and culture.
The visit, undertaken at Manturov’s invitation, also included talks between Jaishankar and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on regional and global issues.
Key agenda items at the commission session included logistics, transport, energy and technology development between the two countries.
Jaishankar arrived in Russia on Sunday for the two-day official visit, with the commission session held on Monday in Moscow.
Jaishankar and Lavrov had last met in July 2026 in Manila, where they reviewed bilateral ties and discussed the Ukraine conflict, the Gulf situation and the safety of Indian seafarers.
The Inter-Governmental Commission format has been the primary institutional mechanism for India-Russia economic and technical cooperation for over two decades, with this year’s session marking its 27th edition.
India and Russia have continued to deepen cooperation in energy, defence and connectivity in recent years, even as both countries navigate a shifting global geopolitical landscape.
The Moscow visit comes as part of a broader schedule of high-level exchanges between the two countries this year, aimed at reviewing progress on existing agreements and identifying new areas of collaboration.
Trade between India and Russia has grown substantially in recent years, with energy imports forming a significant component of the bilateral relationship alongside defence and technology cooperation.
Officials from both sides are expected to issue a joint statement following the commission session, outlining the outcomes of the talks and the roadmap for the coming year.
The visit is being closely watched in diplomatic circles given the broader context of shifting global alliances and India’s continued balancing of ties with multiple major powers.
