This Privacy Policy explains what information Times Release (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects when you visit timesrelease.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We have written it to comply with India’s Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • When you email us (for example to send a news tip, press release, correction or advertising enquiry), we receive your name, email address and anything else you choose to include, such as a phone or WhatsApp number.
  • When you comment on an article, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, your comment, and your IP address and browser details.

Information collected automatically

  • Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand how readers use the site, such as which pages are visited, how long people stay, the type of device and browser, approximate location (city or country) and how visitors found us. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this.
  • Site statistics and security: our site uses Jetpack (by Automattic) for site statistics and security, which may record your IP address and pages viewed.
  • Server logs: like most websites, our hosting server records basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the time of your visit, to keep the site secure and running.

We do not ask for, and do not want you to send us, sensitive information such as passwords, bank or card details, health information or government ID numbers.

2. How we use your information

  • To reply to your messages and consider your news tips, press releases and enquiries.
  • To publish and moderate comments.
  • To understand which stories readers find useful and improve our coverage and website.
  • To keep the site secure and prevent spam, fraud and abuse.
  • To meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use:

  • Essential cookies that keep the site working, for example to remember the comment details you entered.
  • Analytics cookies from Google Analytics and Jetpack that help us measure readership.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, although some features (such as remembering your comment details) may not. To opt out of Google Analytics on all websites, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

4. Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers that help us run the site, and only as much as they need:

  • Google (Google Analytics) for readership statistics. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • Automattic (Jetpack and Akismet) for site statistics, security and comment spam filtering. Comments are checked by Akismet to filter out spam. See Automattic’s Privacy Policy.
  • Our web hosting provider, which stores the website and its data.

We may also disclose information if required by law, by a court order or by a government authority acting lawfully, or to protect the rights and safety of our readers, staff or others.

5. How long we keep information

  • Emails are kept for as long as needed to deal with your request and any follow-up, and then deleted.
  • Published comments and their details are kept for as long as the comment remains on the site.
  • Google Analytics data is kept according to the retention period set in our Google Analytics account.

6. Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to:

  • ask what personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
  • ask us to correct, complete or update your data;
  • ask us to erase your data, for example to remove a comment you posted;
  • withdraw any consent you have given;
  • nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf; and
  • raise a grievance with us, and if you are not satisfied, with the Data Protection Board of India.

To use any of these rights, email support@timesrelease.com with the subject line “Privacy request”. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold, including secure (HTTPS) connections and regular backups. No website can be completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
